22.05.00 - Doppelmayr Supplies 6th Ropeway to Saudi Arabia
The world´s leading ropeway manufacturer has just been awarded the contract for a new 8-passenger gondola to be built in the city of Taif, 60 km south-east of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The ropeway will greatly improve access to the valleys of the Asir mountain range. Taif and its surroundings feature among Saudi Arabia´s most traditional tourist regions.
The city greatly profits from its vicinity to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina and since the 1950s enjoys regular visits by members of the royal family who come here for vacation.
The contract for the new ropeway was signed on April 10th, 2000 by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulmajeed Ben Abdulaziz Al-Saud in his function as honorary president of the Taif Tourism Corporation who commissioned the installation. Completion of the ropeway is envisaged for March 2001. The Taif project is Doppelmayr´s sixth project in Saudi Arabia since 1994.
